What the mode is

MW4 DMZ is an extraction experience set in an open combat zone, with persistent progression. Each deployment lets players decide how to balance objectives, exploration, combat, looting, and the risk of staying longer.

Players can deploy solo or with a squad. AI forces and rival Operators may both threaten a run. The goal is to extract with valuable rewards rather than treating every encounter as mandatory.

A practical deployment loop

  • Prepare at the Forward Operating Base: select an Active Duty Operator, review Orders, and set the available loadout.
  • Choose a route through the Hajin Exclusion Zone that fits your gear, objectives, and squad size.
  • Loot containers and gather resources, but use the 3D Printer's resource hints to focus searches on materials you actually need.
  • Complete Orders or Operations for progression and rewards; disengage when the risk outweighs the value of continuing.
  • Reach an exfil and leave with the items you want to keep. Failed exfil can put carried gear at risk; check current Secure Slot rules in game.

How it differs from the older DMZ Beta

The Xbox Wire interview describes MW4 DMZ as a rebuilt, persistent-progression experience with a Forward Operating Base, continuing Operators, inventory, and a longer progression arc. This reference keeps that mode separate from the earlier MWII DMZ Beta so old maps, keys, and instructions are not mislabeled as MW4 information.
